How do we turn numbers into decisions?It starts with being able to listen. Listen to the clients, listen to the business, and listen to what is not being said. The hidden assumptions of a business are the opportunities for great analysis. Then describe solutions and make sure that the solutions work conceptually. The next step is understanding and using the data itself. This takes understanding how to actually get at the data, and all the quirks the data has. Once we have the data then we can apply appropriate approaches to it. This may be simple reporting; this may be deep model building. Often we will want to do deep analysis to identify what the real story is, and then display this story with simple tables. After the solution is created, the solution must be communicated to the wider organization. And finally the solution must be put into production and maintained.The process above is not a linear process. At best, all the steps are constantly interwoven but with a driven towards completion. I excel at this process and all the steps, as an individual contributor, an adviser, a mentor, and a manager.
