Temporary promotion to a post serving at Department Director level, with responsibility for a team of 15-20 staff.

I was seconded within Historic England to coordinate a programme of responses to support the heritage sector, initially till September 2020.

Continuing the direction of my previous post but with a broader knowledge and expertise sharing remit. I lead a team of four with responsibility for research partnerships with higher education, research agendas and digital research information and written guidance. I work in a team focussed on heritage sector capacity building.

Responsible for developing strategy for the issue of written guidance by the UK Governments advisor on heritage matters. I developed PRINCE2 based project management guidelines geared to the needs of the heritage research sector (MoRPHE), including developing and delivering training to colleagues across the sector. I also designed and led technical authoring courses for English Heritage staff.

Developing and monitoring technical standards for data content and indexing of heritage site records Published 'MIDAS A Manual and Standard for Monument Inventories' (RCHME 1998). Acted as Secretary to the Forum on Information Standards in Heritage, and led development of a suite of XML schemas to support data sharing between inventories of heritage sites.

My role was to create, update and maintain sections of the English National Archaeological Record (now managed by Historic England). Work included desk-based research, summarising and accurate data entry. I also produced guidelines for those managing the NAR record, and developed and delivered training in the use of the bespoke ORACLE database.

During this secondment I assisted early development of the project to revise the SPECTRUM standard for museum collection documentation, submitted museum web site reviews for the 24HourMuseum website, and contributed to the development of the Curriculum Navigator, a tool to assist school teachers in the use of educational material from museums.

Responsible for supervising archaeological excavations in Barnstaple, and later for supervision of the analysis of artefacts and production of reports.
