I learned how to screen libraries of genes with unknown function in E. coli, using light as a fast and easy induction stimulus.I also created stunning "bacteriographs", using E.coli as pixels to compose detailed images.

Research project: Transient expression of BLINK proteins in zebrafish. Supervisor: Filippo del Bene.I first cloned the construct of a synthetic light-gated ion channel (BLINK, an acronym for Blue Light INduced K+ channel), then injected the mRNA in zebrafish oocytes, to induces neuron hyperpolarization with light. To assess the mutant phenotype, I performed behavioural assays.

Fellowship project: Expression of synthetic protein BLINK1 in mammalian cells and zebrafish. Supervisor: prof. A. Moroni.In this internship, I continued the master's thesis project, performing the last experiments for the publication.
