About Edoardo Ferri

I'm a third-year PhD student at Politecnico di Milano.My primary research field is power electronics, focusing on multilevel converters for storage integration in charging stations, and isolated dc-dc converters control strategies and topologies for efficiency improvement. I had my master thesis written in cooperation with ABB, where I developed the hardware for a wireless-supplied temperature sensor, and I worked for a couple of months as a hardware engineer in Eldor.Besides technical things, I love to follow my curiosity reading about various topics. For example, in the past years I have been very interested in behavioural economics and biases thanks to the works of Daniel Kahneman, and now I'm trying to learn some Japanese. When I'm not reading/working/hanging out with friends I also play the electric guitar, listen to some records, and take photos.

    As a doctoral student, my main research activity is focused on modular multilevel converters for storage integration in the grid and in EV charging station.• Definition and studies on new modular charging station topologies and controls• Studies on efficiency-oriented control strategies for MMC/DAB Power Electronics TransformersI'm also actively taking part in research projects in collaboration with companies on the following topics:• Studies on power converters and sensorless control of PMSM for aeronautical applications: efficiency evaluations, MRAS-based sensorless control simulations and digital implementation (Oct. 2023 - Ongoing) • studies on real-time estimation of IGBTs junction temperature for grid-tied NPC converter (Dec. 2023 - Ongoing)• studies on common-mode voltages issues in NPC converter parallelization for BESS integration. Development of equivalent models and evaluation scripts. (March 2022 - Sept. 2023)• Development of testing procedures on grid-connected BESS for a major Italian multinational energy company. In this project, I was involved in various support activities concerning data analysis. (Jan. 2022 - March 2023).
