I started out volunteering at AYSO, Region 9 as an assistant coach. I have held serveal additional positions over the years; coach, referee, referee instructor, referee staff, director of communications, author of the region's historical book, and executive board member. I retired from the executive board in 2005, however have continued to referee and participate in referee instruction.

I started as a territory saleaman then was promoted to area sales manager after the first year. My job to to both hold down a territory and to oversee other salespeople. Our product was sunglasses and reading glasses. Our primary market was drug stores, supermarkets and ski/sporting shops.

During the summer I was the assistant manager of the Mountaineering Retail store in Curry Village. In the winter, I managed the retail ski shop at the Badger Pass Ski Area (on the way to Glacier Point) in Yosemite National Park.
