I am interested in how quantitative analysis can be used to counsel stakeholders that don't necessarily have the mathematical background that is useful for making informed decisions. At Reed College, coursework within my major focused on the conceptual understanding and careful application of statistical methods to solve problems. I analyzed data about US elections, NBA basketball games, and American colleges: In 2017, I built a linear mixed regression model to predict the results of the 2018 California state legislature election. For my senior thesis, I investigated how machine learning models can be used to measure player impact in the context of a team's change in win probability. And in 2019, I explored how clustering methods comparing colleges' institutional features can offer a more useful tool for prospective students about which college is best suited for their educational goals by redirecting their framework away from a rank-based model toward one that emphasizes similarities between any two schools or a list of schools that match their institutional preferences. During my education I developed three years of experience in multiple programming languages, primarily R (tidyverse including ggplot) but also SQL and Python.After earning my degree, I have two years of experience working as a Business Operations Intern at Genentech, first with the Production team, then with Global Product Development. Contributions for Production include analyzing training data to ensure data are accurate and consider how to improve completion rates. In Product Development, I thoroughly unite different sources of information to create a single source of accurate data on planned sampling for clinical trials. I also help maintain and improve business operational dashboards that inform Biomarker Project Managers, Data Quality Leads, Analytics Managers, and Clinical Scientists about their studies.Throughout my education and work experience, I have maintained a strong emphasis on bidirectional relationships between professors and students, managers and reports, mentors and mentees that empower the less experienced individual to contribute their own ideas with the assurance that their voice will be heard by those with more experience.
