My role was to assist residents of Santa Cruz County with disposing their household hazardous waste, as well as, perform environmental monitoring for the Buena Vista Landfill in Watsonville, CA and the Ben Lomond Transfer Station in Ben Lomond, CA.Assisted in environmental monitoring including landfill fill gas, surface water, groundwater, stormwater, condensate, and leachate for the Buena Vista landfill and the Ben Lomond Transfer Station.Maintained accurate, legible records of environmental data. Assessed if county landfills complied with federal regulations. Identified and sorted household hazardous waste by following standard operating procedures and using scientific tools. Ensured all hazardous waste had correct HAZMAT labeling and assisted in its safe transport to offsite facilities.Safely moved 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums using drum dollies, cranes, and hand trucks.Responded to emergency situations, such as chemical spills, calmly, promptly, and appropriately. Assisted in documenting these situations in detail.

As the assistant manager at Habitat for Humanity ReStore Santa Cruz, I was responsible for managing the store, delegating responsibilities, participating in staff meetings, and consistently taking action in the development of the store.Managed the store, and supervised employees and volunteers in maintaining daily store operations. Delegated responsibilities within the health and safety limits of employees, especially employees working through disability programs. Participated in meetings with the management team of Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay and suggested ways in which the ReStore Santa Cruz can increase sales, and increase and retain customers, donors and volunteers.Built a pilot internship program that provides students the opportunity to enhance their skills by creating feasible projects and assisting them in executing those projects. As a volunteer water quality monitor, I assisted with collecting environmental data of streams in the city of Capitola, CA. I also assisted the organizations' goal of empowering Capitola residents in becoming citizen scientists by training them in environmental monitoring techniques.As a River Health Intern, my role was to assist with community organizing to empower residents living adjacent to the San Lorenzo River to take action in making the river educationally stimulating while protecting its biodiversity.Performed EPA protocol to monitor water quality in the city of Capitola.Assisted in compiling and organizing water quality records of streams in Capitola into visual representations that communicate significant findings to city officials.Assisted with community-building and empowerment through community gatherings that facilitated conversations about how to make the river more engaging and welcoming, while enhancing ecosystem health.

I also assisted in the development of a community garden, and facilitated urban gardening education through an after-school program, both located in an elementary school in Watsonville, California.Co-coordinated ten UCSC interns in taking on lead roles in social media, outreach, curriculum planning, event planning, and grant writing.Fostered experiential learning opportunities in urban gardening education and natural sciences for elementary kids and UCSC students through an after-school program. This involved lesson-planning, leading activities, translating information (Spanish-English), maintaining safe learning environments, and more.Supported the community of Calabasas Elementary in the establishment of an organic community garden through Work Days.
