About Ed Straw
I’m a writer and researcher on systems of government, why they are of (mostly) limited value, how they cause or allow inequality, and their failure to deal adequately with the climate emergency and other deleterious consequences of treating the biosphere as an infinite resource and infinite dumping ground. BUT! Most importantly I/we haver answers ie new designs for systems of government so that they work. My perspective is through a systemic and organisational lens. I've experienced government from every angle: as a citizen and consumer, adviser to several government ministers, chair of Demos and Relate, a specialist on government task forces, consultant on both the Conservative and Labour government’s public sector reforms, and as a ‘moderniser’ for the UK Labour party. As a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers I was a global and UK board director, European head of consulting for entertainment and media companies, amongst other roles. My new book (with Ray Ison) is on governance in a climate emergency. This draws on my earlier book setting out a new system of government - Stand & Deliver: A Design for Successful Government.
