The control system consists of Siemens S7-300 & -400 PLCs combined with WinCC SCADA operated from a central control room. The main power station has eight 2250kVA Cummins generators with thirty four smaller ones installed in different locations on site.

I am involved in process control in the Gold Plant. This includes involvement with the Instrumentation-, Electrical-, Process- and Metallurgical departments. The Plant is new but there are still many challenges that need to be addressed. The two main focus points at the moment are utilising auto control using the PLC- and SCADA network (The PLCs are Siemens S7-300 and S7-400 and the SCADA is Citect) and improving operation of the Flotation Plant. Improvements envisaged include automatic feeding of steel balls to the SAG mill, ensuring constant and less erratic feed to the same mill; speed indication of the thickener rakes and reducing chemical consumption. Also replacement of the elution heater and improving temperature control of the elution process. Current big projects include the expansion of the SMBS- and oxygen plants.

All instrumentation- and electrical maintenance, breakdowns and expansions resort jointly under an electrical supervisor, an instrumentation supervisor and myself (I have experience in both the instrumentation and electrical fields.) This includes the processing Plant, the pits (as far as dewatering is concerned) and the Town Site.In the Plant we use GEFanuc PLCs with a Citect HMI and standard process-related instrumentation such as flow-, density- and level gauges and belt weighers.Our power station currently consists of twenty four generator sets of varying capacity for a total capacity of 18.8MW. Twenty one of them are controlled by Comap InteliGen controllers which are interconnected and controlled the InteliMain. It is set up such that, whenever the power fails, generator sets would be started automatically and power restored to critical locations and functions. Power distribution on site is at 11kV with step-down transformers to 415V and 690V.I was also involved in a building project where a two story building had to be built to serve as golf clubhouse. The main purpose was the hosting of the Ghana Open Golf Tournament in March 2010.

I am responsible for the installation and maintenance of instrumentation such as flow meters, density meters, ultrasonic and laser level detectors and electromechanical belt weighers. These instruments are connected to PLCs (Modicon 984 and Quantum) which are in turn connected to an InTouch SCADA from which the plant is controlled. The maintenance and expansion of the software, including belt interlocking, is also my responsibility.An expert control system was implemented in our milling circuit. Data capture is done via Industrial Sequel Server. I did courses in both the expert system and InSQL.In general, process control on our automated plant is my responsibility.The Plant’s IT, which entails installation, maintenance and upgrading of all PC hard- and software, is in my scope of responsibility.I attended and passed a course in VISUAL BASIC.
