Besides my studies in Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, my experience during the implementation of Management Systems, in QHSE Operational Coordination and Management and working for Petrobras and other big companies, it has taught me a lot.I have learned that a good QHSE Management System is simple and straightforward. It needs to be aligned with the Company’s principles. The MS needs to be concerned in being the most productive possible, or as Professor Vicente Falconi has said: “produce more with a lower cost”. In all company sectors, including QHSE, we need to be the most effective and the least bureaucratic possible. I have learned that an extremely bureaucratic QHSE MS loses its credibility and that might result in people “making” evidences.That has taught me that a good MS provides support to the company in reducing costs and optimizing its resources. I believe that our main objective is to care about people’s life and health (Safety First), and we can do it independently of the Company’s size or Financial Capital.My expertise has shown me that it’s time for the Safety Professional to work alongside the operational sectors in order to provide solutions to work the safest way, meeting the legislation and requirements. The QHSE Professional should not work as “a policeman”.I’ve learned that a good QHSE Professional needs to have a good relationship with others and work as part of a team, being open-minded and willing to learn all the time. I can learn something new and different ways of doing the same thing every day, and sometimes such things are more effective than the previous procedures.With such mindset I’ve achieved great results, as you can see below.
