Regulatory Compliance
CurrentOur 2 factories are in the ghetto. One is 3 blocks long the other is a 5 acre lot. They are separated by Conrail. Our neighbor is a huge Conrail switching yard to the South and the East. We own most of the properties to the North across the street. The properties we don't own are our residential neighbors. Every couple years we catch them shooting each other on our cameras over drug deals that go bad. They don't burn our buildings down because we provide security as we don't compete in there market. Half our work force walks to work. They are the people that lock them selves in there houses at night so they don't get shot. They are the silent majority of Camden that keeps the city from burning to the ground all together. They don't do drugs, they have almost no education, most can't speak english, they have families, and they work for us doing physical labor all day long. The end result of what I do is to put them in a situation that they are proud to come to work because they know I have there back. I provide them with the most comprehensive safety program of any other drum company that I know of. The norm in the drum industry is screw them, fire them, replace them. It cost money to do my job correctly. The cost is payed back many times over in worker production . Rule 1 is any one can shut down any line, at any time, for a safety reason, always, with out any approval from anyone ever. In the last 3 years there has been 3 non employee people murdered that are line of site from my steel barred office window. 2 during the night, 1 while I was there. All drug deals gone bad. After the bodies are scraped up, I go home to perfect suburbia, my workers don't. That's my job decription.
