About Edward Bruce
Electromechanical systems have been a passion through my undergraduate education leading to many projects. From these projects, I became interested in how to better control these systems, leading to attending graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University. I graduated in May 2020 with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with research and classes focused heavily in controls and machine learning. Since then I have been working as a robotics engineer on a small 3 to 4 person team at Westinghouse that has allowed me to gain experience in all aspects of robotics. Work experience at Westinghouse has also taught me about how to write professional, maintainable software which vastly increases the speed of adoption to new robotic systems and new engineers. I am open to remote positions and interested in continuing my constant learning in the field of robotics.

Worked in a small 3-4 person team that was responsible for the full development of our robots which allowed experience in all parts of robotic systems as can be seen below:Wrote many ROS nodes in both python and C++ that controlled both mobile robots and robotic arms. These nodes spanned a wide range of operability including low level control of mobile robots, a low level systemd based startup system that all our robots use, a notification library to send messages to the User Interface, various arm control nodes using manufacturer APIs, MoveIt,and Ros Control, and many more.Integrated robots into our software system including custom and off the shelf robots. This allowed for a lot of experience in debugging all aspects of the robot including networking, software compatibility, hardware drivers, and algorithm tuning.Led a project involving 3-D scanning and robotic arm path planning. Developed business cases for the project and determined the feasibility of continuing based on technical debt inherited from the previous owner and the theoretical customer market size.
