Their music, recorded on their debut album, reflects these different backgrounds: a solid ground layer of ‘Ethiopiques’ (Ethiopian bigband styles from the sixties and seventies, that have become known under the name of an extensive cd series) over which they play a scorching mixture of West-African Afrobeat, jazz and funk. Since then the line-up of the band has changed. In 2017 the Eritrean singer and krar player Bereket Behre Akitu joins Eddy & the Ethiopians. With melodies and rhythms from his homeland he enriches the repertoire of the band. This new admixture of styles is the starting point for basic compositions by Edward Capel, to which the other musicians add their lines. The pieces that have come out of this procedure, have been released on their second CD, E&EII. The current band comprises fewer Ethiopians than the original line-up. Met de muziek is niks mis. Het is de tekst die de verwarring zaait en het geheel des te interessanter maakt. De dichter ACG Vianen is aangesteld als zanger. Per nummer geeft hij een explosieve klankvariatie op de titel van het nummer. Een tekst in verhalende vorm is afwezig.er is geen sprake van de extremiteit die je bij de klankgedichten van kurt schwitters en Hugo Ball – het liefst in de uitvoering van Jaap Blonk – terug hoort.ACG Vianen maakt over het algemeen gebruik nog wel gebruik van woorden, of in ieder geval delen van woorden, die hij over de muziek uitstort. Bluntaxe is een uitloper van The Bluntaxeorchestra waar de basisformule uit groovende baslijnen en geïmproviseerde saxofoonsolo’s bestaat. Die twee elementen komen sterk terug op de cd ‘ Hoembwa!!’ . Bluntaxe3-Edward Capel, Jan Vanderlest en Johan Reijnders- is voor de gelegenheid uitgebreid met gitarist Jacq Palinckx en ACG Vianen. Dit samenraapsel van muzikanten en dichter werkt als een trein. Roggeveen verving in 2008 Harm Goslink Kuiper als toetsenist bij El Pino and the Volunteers en schreef verschillende nummers voor de band. Omdat een deel van de nummers ongebruikt bleven, ging hij zelf aan het werk. Hij speelde zelf verschillende instrumenten in en werkte daarbij o.a. samen met Kyteman, Diederik Rijpstra en Edward Capel. Dit maal wordt de clip niet bevolkt door Manfred de Yeti, maar door een groep angstige wezens die het tempo proberen bij te benen om niet af te raken tijdens een akelig realistisch spel met drumstellen. Where most instruments maintain the same visual appearance, the Formonium’s shape changes while it’s being played. Its outline influences and adds texture to the sound it is producing. Ik ben 25 jaar werkzaam in het muziekonderwijs als saxofoondocent, ensemble leider,bandcoach voor pop/rock/hiphop, jazz & improvisatie-workshops voor kinderen en volwassenen en als arrangeur/dirigent van bigbands en blaasorkesten. Ook heb ik ervaring als docent algemeen muziekonderwijs basisschool, na-schoolse opvang en het jongerenwerk.

The exhibition Mixed Frequencies took place in the Gaslab ( Eindhoven) in januari 2003.
