Phd StudentImperial College London Oct 2019 - Jun 2024Working on the Devito project: a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) and framework for automated generation of highly optimized stencil kernels. Developed a novel, generalised class of immersed boundary methods, designed for implementing topography across the wide range of equations used in seismic wavefield modelling. Constructed a software framework to automatically generate boundary treatments of this class, giving geoscientists a compact, high-level specification, whilst creating separation of concerns between the physical problem and the underlying numerical methods, enabling straightforward integration of complex topography support into land seismic imaging workflows. -
Graduate Teaching AssistantImperial College London Oct 2018 - Oct 2023Assisted with coordination and delivery of practical sessions to students. Course topics include programming, mathematics modules, numerical methods, inversion and optimisation, continental tectonics, and applied geophysics. -
Msci ProjectImperial College London Oct 2018 - Jan 2019MSci Project: Spatially-optimized finite-difference schemes for numerical dispersion suppression in seismic applications.Expanding on existing stencil optimization techniques, I developed a method to calculate improved finite-difference stencil coefficients via constrained optimization. Use of these coefficients yields a stencil which exhibits superior preservation of dispersion characteristics versus a conventional stencil of the same extent. I analyzed the dispersion characteristics of the developed stencils, validating my findings in forward wavefield modelling applications. This project was associated with the multidisciplinary Devito group at Imperial College London, encompassing geophysical modelling, numerical methods, and Domain Specific Languages (DSLs). Received a 1st grade for my dissertation. -
Research InternTgs Jul 2022 - Oct 2022Woking, England, United KingdomBenchmarked automatically generated code against hand-optimised solutions and developed proof-of-concept for several advanced propagator capabilities. -
Research AssistantImperial College London Jul 2018 - Aug 2018Developed a fault-detection system for seismic interpretation, under the supervision of Professor Yanghua Wang. Detection was based on plane-wave destruction filters, implemented in C, and tested on 2D seismic datasets. Further applications of plane-wave destruction filters explored included noise suppression and the extraction of prevailing textures from seismic sections. -
Research AssistantImperial College London Jul 2017 - Aug 2017Carried out pre-processing and quality control of teleseismic arrivals for a mantle-scale tomographic model of the African continents under the supervision of Dr Ian Bastow. Improved existing scripts to further automate and accelerate the pre-processing workflow.
