Co-Chair Events Committee
CurrentA lil' update in my activities: (June 7, 1916--June 7, 2016) The Historic Columbia River Highway Centennial Celebration Planing Committee meets Thursday AM in downtown Portland. Two weeks ago I took on Co-Chairman of the Events Committee. I was actually asked if I wanted to chair it! Yikes! A little practice, please! The biggest inter-agency project I've accomplished before this was to build a 70-ft pedestrian bridge over earthworks at Richmond National Battlefield Parks, with a crew of 6 teenagers and a student intern that the Park's head carpenter told me couldn't be done. Nice, but still not in this league. Bill Failing (former President of the Oregon Historical Society), our Celebration Committee Director and chief fundraiser, will be chairman. Whew! The goals of this first meeting (1/29/15) are to:• Decide what parts of the 1916 event to include in the 2016 event• Decide what time(s) to hold each event (one at Multnomah and one at Vista House)• Decide what order to hold the two events (start at Vista House or Multnomah Falls?)• Begin to define general tasks / to-dos for the events • Begin brainstorming parking and logistical needs and possible solutionsEye'll likely be pretty bleary because probably won't get home 'till midnight from the HCCA-PRG Meeting.
