Profile bio

About Edward Eiche

From the moment I could fully appreciate the achievement of human flight, I’ve been captivated by the mechanics and innovation that make it possible. The ability of flight to shrink the world and the profound implications of space exploration on our understanding of the universe continue to inspire me. My ultimate goal is to contribute to the advancement of aeronautics or astronautics, making these fields more efficient and sustainable, breaking barriers in range, speed, and accessibility. In the past few years, I’ve gained hands-on experience through both academic and professional opportunities. As a member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers and the SAE Aero Design team at Texas A&M, I’ve honed my skills in CAD modeling, structural analysis, and collaborative problem-solving. My internship with Albany Engineered Composites provided me with a deep understanding of composite design and manufacturing processes, where I led efforts that significantly improved tool efficiency, reduced material waste, and streamlined technician training. Additionally, my role as an eVTOL performance and cost-benefit analyst allowed me to explore the future of aerial mobility, working with a multidisciplinary team to assess the potential shift from traditional helicopters to eVTOLs in the aerial tourism industry. These experiences, alongside my leadership role in SAE Aero, where I train fellow students in structural analysis and conduct trade studies in areas of design features and materials, have solidified my passion for aerospace engineering. While I am not yet certain whether my future lies more in the aeronautical or astronautical side of things, I am particularly excited about advancements in renewable energy integration and sustainable aircraft structures. The inspiring journeys of Bertrand Piccard’s Solar Impulse projects exemplify the extraordinary possibilities that lie ahead. I look forward to exploring these areas through further internships and project experiences, aiming to find my niche within the aerospace industry.
