Developing an open-source modelling toolkit for the dynamic analysis and control of large-scale pipe networks transporting hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

My thesis considered a broad range of chemical engineering aspects applied to carbon dioxide absorption processes:- Developed a predictive model for a CO2 chemisorption process in gPROMS, integrating asophisticated equation of state (SAFT-gamma Mie).- Designed and implemented a methodology for regressing equation of state parameters,where the parameter estimation problem is posed as a multi-objective optimization problem.Interfaced with gSAFT, python, MATLAB and C++.- Optimized parameter sets for the complex interactions present in carbon dioxide, waterand alkanolamine solutions, with focus on caloric properties.- Derived a classical density functional theory for the accurate prediction of the propertiesof inhomogeneous fluids and fluid mixtures, and square gradient theory to solve a similarproblem involving coupled second-order PDEs. Implemented in gPROMS.

Collaboration with the Laboratory of Engineering Thermodynamics team on the development and implementation of multi-objective optimization algorithms to efficiently sample Pareto surfaces in higher dimensions. This work was successful and formed a chapter of my PhD thesis.

Tutor in undergraduate thermodynamics, providing experimental demonstrations, explaining key concepts and deriving solutions to problem sets.

Internship at a Portuguese company producing water based polymer dispersions from laboratoryconcept stage through to production.
