Within my areas of practice, predominantly the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth) and the Criminal Property Confiscation Act 2000 (WA), I act for a diverse range of clients, from government and listed entities, to individuals. I have appeared as counsel at all levels including an appeal before the full bench of the High Court of Australia that established the correct construction of the bona fide purchaser for value protection in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

• Responsible for litigation conducted by a team of lawyers under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth).• Member of the management team.• Responsible for liaison with State, Federal and International government departments.• Regularly appeared as Counsel in Superior courts. For example: - In the Supreme Court of WA in the Goldfinger litigation, which resulted in one of the largest forfeitures to that time in Australia. - In the Supreme Court of WA in Ex Parte the Commissioner of the AFP [2012] WASC 25. - In the Supreme Court of Victoria in the early stages of Commissioner of the AFP v SK Foods Australia Pty Ltd (in liquidation), the largest forfeiture in Australia.

• Delegate of the Director with the power to commence litigation to restrain and forfeit property under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. • I appeared as counsel in a constitutional argument in DPP v Kamal [2010] WADC 67 and in the appeal arising from that decision DPP v Kamal (2011) 248 FLR 64; (2011) 206 A Crim R 397; [2011] WASCA 55. • I had significant input into numerous legislative amendments, e.g. to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act 1987, the Foreign Evidence Act 1994 and the Administrative Decisions (Judicial Review) Act 1977. • Acted as counsel assisting approved examiners under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. • Delivered training to international contingents. • Worked with Mr Stephen Gageler SC (as he then was) in his capacity as Solicitor-General. • I appeared as counsel: - Before the Court of Appeal in an interlocutory appeal in Smith v R (2007) 2007 35 WAR 201; 63 ACSR 445. - In pre-trial take evidence hearings of foreign witnesses. - In District Court trials arising from ASIC investigations.• Member of the precedents committee and the counter-terrorism group.

• Worked directly to the partners, Lee Christensen and John Vaughan SC. • Prepared and conducted, and assisted in the conduct of, cases and liaison with clients, including Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Halifax Bank of Scotland.• Predominantly advised and acted on behalf of insolvency practitioners. • Appeared as counsel at special appointments on pleading arguments and in corporate insolvency matters. See for example Rustic Haven Sdn Bhd v The Ravenswood Resort P/L [2005] WASC 66 and also [2005] WASC 88.

• Worked on civil and commercial litigation matters in State and Federal Courts. Regularly appeared as Counsel at defended hearings in the Magistrates Court.• Obtained an Anton Piller order and various injunctions. See for instance Bandaid Tyres P/L v Williams [2002] WASC 306.• Appeared as lead Counsel for the appellant prosecutor on a Single Judge Appeal; Lappan v Hughes [2003] WASCA 173, since cited in Criminal Law WA at [23.12].
