Edward graduated from his BE in 2014, and his PhD focusing on Ultimate Pit Limit Determination for In-Pit Crushing and Conveying Systems in 2019. Throughout his time at university, he has been heavily involved in the education of the next generation of student engineers, developing both his communication skills, and extending his own knowledge of mine design and feasibility, mine planning, and mine ventilation.Edward has completed multiple industry placements, two of which are notable. He spent three months during his undergraduate degree with time split between open cut coal, and underground gold. He was responsible for leading a project to identify and analyse the downstream benefits and financial opportunities of using electronic detonators. Throughout this period, he learnt to work effectively with site management in the limited time they have available, to achieve desirable outcomes and present them in a way that could be easily digested. In addition to this, he also completed a two month internship with RWE Technology International in Germany, spending time both on site at their lignite mines, and in their head office during his postgraduate studies. During this time, he worked with the short term scheduling team and operational personnel to overcome the challenges of archaeological finds that were blocking the progression of mining, and complications of freezing weather conditions. This placement gave him a deeper understanding of the practical requirements of using conveyors as the main haulage method.Edward is highly motivated, with a creative and inquisitive mind, and is always keen to learn. This allows him to produce high calibre work whether he is leading a team, part of a team, or working autonomously. He takes a serious and professional approach to all his duties, without losing the human touch, or ability to enjoy the work. Edward has strong working knowledge of various industry specific tools, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
