Edward Kushell has been involved in franchising for over 40 years. As a previous franchisor, he built up a network of over 400 franchises. He also was an Area Developer/ franchisee of 8 units in the fast food business.. Kushell is a past President of the International Franchise Association (IFA), a member of the Board of Directors of several franchise companies and a consultant to hundreds of early stage companies contemplating or mature franchisors already engaged in franchising. Private Equity firms turn to Kushell to help evaluate the franchise relationship environment of potential investments and/or acquisitions of franchise companies and some of the most well known franchise brands have called on his organization to perform evaluations of their company. Kushell also serves as an expert witness in legal proceedings and has been retained over 100 times representing both franchisors and franchisees.This broad based background has given Kushell a unique perspective on the advantages and disadvantages of franchising, why it works for some and not others, and what the key elements are of successful and mutually beneficial franchisor/franchisee relationships.Kushell has been called on as a private consultant by the founders of several iconic franchise companies who sought his advice and counsel on a variety of M&A and other franchise related issues.
