In Australia student enrolments are plummeting in science, technology, engineering and math(STEM). Over the next two years Australian companies will need to hire three times the number ofAU graduates with tertiary degrees in STEM subjects. FTE Solutions is addressing this problem byintroducing upper primary and lower secondary students to technology equipment that requirescompetency in STEM subjects. They help students connect “doing well in math and science” withexciting careers in medical instrument design, advanced manufacturing, and software coding. FTESolutions outfits a van with high tech equipment from vendors who are reimbursed on a pay-perusebasis. Schools contract with FTE to deliver “experience sessions” to groups of students. FTEdrives the van to the school. Inside the van are six stations where groups of students learn tooperate a mini computerized production line, do some basic software programming, try out virtualreality (using Oculus Rift eyewear), understand the basics of water treatment, hydraulic platforms,and use software to design shapes that gets printed on a 3D printer. Science and math come alive!

Over the last six months, Ed Milne has worked hard to strengthen and further develop our Telecommunications portfolio. Ed has been based in our Brisbane office and has been integral in developing the relationships not only with Telstra but with our clients in the Brisbane branch and keeping things on track. He has developed the Telstra Trainee program for ISGM, was responsible for rebuilding the Brisbane team, leading the recertification of our International Safety Accreditation 18001 Safety and our Quality Management ISO renewal.
