Edward Mitchell is the Director of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to that he was an assistant professor at the School of Architecture at Yale University where he coordinated the post-professional studio and the graduate studios in urbanism. His studios have an emphasis on experimental research in sustainable urbanism and the changing patterns of the contemporary city under the pressures of globalization. This work has been exhibited internationally, and has been awarded research grants in Toronto, Helsinki and Vancouver.After working in New York he established his own practice in New Haven in 1998. In 1999 he was given a Young Architects Award from the Architectural League of New York. He is a fellow of the Urban Design Workshop which does community design in numerous towns and cities in Connecticut. He is a former member of Vita Nuova, a consortium specializing in the rehabilitation of former industrial sites and new sustainable development with projects nation-wide. He has exhibited in Chicago, Germany, Rome, New York, New Haven, Washington, and Los Angeles and has lectured in the United States, Canada, Germany and Finland. His writing has been published in a number of international magazines including ANY Magazine; The Village Voice, Assemblage, Log, and the anthology "What is Architecture?” Recent pieces address globalization and its impact on the city including “All Gone: The Temporary Status of Olympic Urbanism” in Perspecta 34 and “Fear Factors” in Perspecta 35. He has conducted seminars in New York on the problems of public space at the site of the World Trade Center, and in the summer of 2005 he organized and participated in the first discussions on architecture and public space conducted by the Salzburg Seminars in Austria.Specialties: Architectural Design and Urban Planning
