Professor Edward Monaghan has been involved in the health/fitness and martial arts fields as a professional for over 30 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Kentucky in 1985 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1988 specializing in movement and applied performance from UCLA.In 1990 Mr. Monaghan was hired to manage the corporate gym facility for Salick Health Care Inc. He managed the facility, developed a corporate wellness program and was responsible for the development of fitness programming for all high-level executives. He has trained a number of celebrities privately including, Val Kilmer, Chris O’Donnell, Randy Quaid, John Malkovitch, Alicia Silverstone, Julianne Moore, Mira Sorvino, Matt Sorum of Guns and Roses, John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Dule Hill of The West Wing, Psych and Rachel Hunter, among others.Mr. Monaghan is also currently a Professor at UCLA’s prestigious school of Theater, Film and Television where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in applied movement, physiology, eastern philosophy, and combat for stage and film. Additionally, Professor Monaghan belongs to the UCLA Mind/Body Faculty Committee and is affiliated with UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center and UC Irvine’s Laboratory for Mind/Body Signaling and Energy Research. Professor Monaghan is currently researching the effects of movement based awareness training as a tool for the improvement of cognitive learning among clinically diagnosed ADHD and ADD children and adults. In addition he is researching the effects of mindful awareness training on population segments with addictive and post-traumatic stress disorders.Professor Monaghan has studied Martial Arts for over 40 years in multiple fighting systems. He has been awarded 7 black belts and is ranked as an 8th degree black belt. In 2010 Ed was inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame and voted “Martial Arts Leader of the Year”.
