I entered the Demolition industry in 2005 as a general labourer, immediately working within a top tier COMAH site Whilst being on and actively involved with demolition sites, I was able to watch, experience and communicate with those persons carrying out the varying aspects of demolition processes. Although not driving the machines carrying out mechanical demolition or slinging items to be removed through lifting I was able to gain knowledge of the differing demolition techniques.After 14 months working on site I was promoted to be a member of office staff.Initially in the new role I carried out mainly admin work. This however gave me a foundation for the basic preparation a demolition site requires for the setup, running and closing of a contract.I was given the opportunity to attend training courses based around the management of demolition and asbestos removal. These courses gave not only an insight to the legislation surrounding the industry, but also a hands on experience at its application.Taking an opportunity, I attended classes and achieved NEBOSH National General, and National Construction Certificates in 2009.This training together with previous experience and past training courses and seminars allowed me to develop project specific plans, such as Pre-Construction Phase plans, as well as attending sites and carrying out project specific safety audits and inspections.Gradually through on going motivation and experience I was tasked with writing method statements for small, specific items of work before eventually project managing (under supervision and guidance relatively small projects.I have now grown to contract leader within the company and oversee projects for the largest to smallest. I hold and lead project meetings with the client, design methods which avoid potential issues and programme delays, write and update programmes, write project specific documents and liaise with everyone on site regularly.
