I am undertaking a PhD funded by the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, investigating the degradation mechanisms present in Solid Oxide Fuel electrodes. With the aim to identify the key sintering mechanism present in early stage ageing (t< 50 h). Additionally, I will use this information to test novel drying steps to control the initial catalyst particle size to mitigate coarsening.To attain this aim, I am using a combination of Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Ptychographic X-ray Computed Tomography to track the nickel particle growth in SOFC anodes during thermal ageing. I am also interested in the impact that different current collector materials have during electrochemical impedance spectroscopy assessment.

As an additive layer manufacturing technician I helped prepare, produce and design additive layer manufactured jewellery using the EOS M080 machine. Produced standard operating procedures for calculating the porosity and surface roughness of 18K Gold samples with the Olympus BX41M microscope and Hommel Etamic W20 surface roughness tester. Created an independent confidence report on surface roughness measurements.

Also learnt how to cut and test tensile test samples using a metal press and performed surface roughness tests on Aluminium Sheet.

Worked as a fuel cell technician within a team who were in charge of leak testing and coating Alkaline fuel cells stacks in sealant. Using an additive layer manufactured coolant system. Additional duties included electrochemical fan tests.
