I identified the issue as an out-of-spec forging from a specific die number and communicated to our supplier the die number and issue. We were able to minimize our scrap to about 15 pieces and incur zero downtime as a result by having the machine operator separate all forgings from with the specific die marker during his part loading routine.

When I returned to Cincinnati Mine Machinery in the summer of 2002, I was moved to a Quality Technician role at the Check and Repair station. In my role, I was tasked to:- Gauge chain parts for pin, bit and fastener clearance after heat treat- Verify dimensional tolerance compliance - Separate scrap and rework non-compliance parts and - Performed finishing operations (grinding, filing, etc.) to rework parts to meet compliance- Deburr and break machined edges that were susceptible to stress risers as part of FMEA study- Disassemble failed field chains and prototypes for FMEA studies
