As a derrick man’s job is to ensure correct alignment of the joints of casing during the running or pulling of the casing. The derrick man will be working at heights, so must not be afraid. The derrick man is responsible for all the work that is required in the derrick. The derrick man must understand how to use the full body harness, double leg lanyard, bellyband and the sala block. He will assist in the hanging of any hydraulic and/or air hoses in the derrick. He must be familiar with all the different types of elevators that are used. When not in the derrick he will assist in running casing on the rig floor. The derrick man will follow and obey all safety rules and guidelines.

As a welder/fitter must be capable of fitting up and welding on steel structures and steel plate and must be certified to start the welding procedure. Each welding machine is setup by extending the welding lead cables to the welding site, starting the generator, welding the ground cable to an appropriate place on the welding site, adjust the welder and to follow the welding procedure. The welder must posses the mechanical aptitude so as to repair or make adjustments to the welding machine or its related equipment. The welder must be able to setup and operate equipment for cutting steel structures and steel plate.
