Senior Market Operator coordinates the operation of the day-to-day operation of the Market Operations function performed by SPP to efficiently and reliably operate an energy imbalance market across a 7-state regional bulk electric transmission grid. Duties include but are not limited to ensuring continuous administration of the energy imbalance market, ensuring market participants comply with applicable Market Protocols in real-time, assisting with the Reliability Coordination process in support of established congestion management process, assisting in the development and maintenance of the market protocols and systems needed to facilitate the markets, assessing and reporting compliance with SPP Criteria and NERC Policies, and providing 24-hour, 7-day per week point of contact for market participants. The incumbent must make timely decisions concern real time operation of a dynamic state bulk electric system as well as facilitate customer interactions with various transmission service offerings and real-time ancillary service markets under the SPP transmission tariff. The Senior Market Operator must demonstrate the ability to lead a shift on the market operations desk and prepare less senior market operators for assuming market operations desk responsibilities. Additionally, the Senior Market Operator must demonstrate the ability to assume leadership in one or more roles in the administration of the Market Operations department including coordination of work schedules, documentation work procedures and proposal improvements, organizing efforts to maintain good customer relations and other areas key to the development of the department or the SPP organization.

Bid Ancillary Services (Regulation, Spin, and Non-Spin) in both DayAhead and Hourly markets while working closely with Real Time Marketing to maximize theprofitability of intra-day generation. Develop and maintain strong relationships with thestaff of the company's generation facilities, gas desks, the ISO, transmission operations,and other organizations that are necessary to optimally and reliably dispatch thegeneration portfolio. Coordinate operation of units with plant personnel includingshutdown and return of units, reactive output, and assignment of capacity reserves asrequired. Serve as communication interface between plants, trading desk, and CALISO.Responsible for the safe and economical operation of over 6000 MW of generation inside theERCOT region. Daily activities include continuously monitoring the EMS to safely andeconomically dispatch generators, to make sure that we always have sufficient capacity totake care of all hourly ancillary awards from ERCOT. Our daily routine includes making alleconomic decisions to cycle generators on and off line based on our hourly obligations.Also includes continually communicating with the Real Time Trader the status of availablecapacity for trading purposes. These tasks are all accomplished while following all ERCOTProtocols, Operating Guides and NERC Policies.

Responsible for the operation of the Salt River Project control area with generation assets in excess of 5500 MW and peak system load of 5002 MW. Duties include system loadforecasting, unit commitment, economic dispatch of a broad mix of generating resources aswell as interchange scheduling with four adjacent control areas. Generation resources include coal, nuclear, gas/oil fired steam and combustion turbine peaking and hydro/pump back units. These tasks were all accomplished while following all WSCC and NERC Policies.
