About Edward Smith
Currently a Medical Physicist at GenesisCare in Melbourne, Aus. Previously, a clinical scientist and proton PhD researcher at the University of Manchester and The Christie. I believe strongly that advanced techniques need to be brought to patients as soon as possible. My research interests are predominantly in LET and radiobiological PBT models but I have interests in AI and spatially fractionated radiotherapy. My skillset includes advanced radiotherapy, python, data science/analysis and mathematical modelling.

The role involved in quality assurance and work in radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, imaging with ionisation radiation and imaging with non-ionising radiation. Two years went spent specialising in radiotherapy including QA, treatment planning and brachytherapy. Achieved clinical scientist registration at the end of the programme.Projects included:- Sole development of a dose model of accidental radiation exposure. This work was presented at several conferences (oral and poster). - The investigation and development of new techniques in spatially fractionated radiotherapy - Development of a Gafchromic film analysis software and procedure (please see the education section for more details).

Short Term Scholar
NHS funded project at the Francis H. Burr Proton Beam Therapy Centre of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. I developed new techniques to deliver spatially fractionated radiotherapy with proton therapy and VMAT/IMRT. Techniques were developed in Eclipse, Raystation and MIM contouring software with large data analysis and research components.

Iop & Nuffield Foundation Research Intern
Awarded funding from the Institute of Physics (IoP) and Nuffield Foundation to pursue a short research project at the Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering dept at UCL. The research project investigated the feasibility and use of current biological models within proton therapy. An analytical model of physical parameters was developed to study biological dose within proton therapy treatment planning.
