Reporting to the Executive Director for HR Operations, responsible for supervision of 11 professionals and paraprofessionals providing employee relations consultation covering approximately 8,000 employees and managers; project management and process improvement leadership; participation on campus-wide committees including Employment Practices Liability Insurance subcommittee, the Disability Policy Group, and the Disability Accommodation Review Team. Responsible for providing employee relations support to the 140 member Human Resources department. Development and oversight of unit budget, long range capital and equipment needs and maintenance of unit space.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for HR Operations, provide consultative employee relations support to assigned client areas including both academic and business units covering 1,700 employees. Assist departments to successfully resolve employee performance problems through both corrective action and termination. Evaluate and respond to employee requests for disability accommodation and leaves of absence afforded under State/Federal laws, University policy, and contract provisions. Negotiate and draft settlement agreements. Prepare for and participate in unemployment hearings, PAB appeals, grievances, and PERC hearings. Administered layoff and reduction-in-force options in accordance with union contract and University policy. Served as the UW Human Resources Workplace Violence Threat Assessment and Prevention Coordinator. Participated in 6-week negotiations resulting in a first-time collective bargaining agreement covering 3800 student employees. Served as the project lead for implementation of the newly-ratified UW/UAW contract covering Academic Student Employees.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for HR Operations, provided consultative employment services to 44 client departments at UW resulting in successful hire of 390 well-qualified employees. Duties included reviewing and revising job descriptions, posting announcements on UW Jobs web site, evaluating resumes and referring qualified candidates. Ensured hiring practices conformed to current employment laws, civil service rules, and were in accordance with UW’s collective bargaining agreements. Developed interview questions, performed phone screen interviews, conducted behavioral interviews, and provided consultation with regard to salary offers and internal equity. Participated in the layoff, alternate job search, and departmental reorganization processes.

Reporting to the Vice President for Human Resources, responsible for sourcing all vacant positions by developing and implementing strategic recruiting plan. Developed and utilized metrics to track and analyze ROI for various recruiting strategies. Responded to applicant inquiries, maintained updated postings on website, screened applications and resumes, generated standard interview questions, conducted approximately 250 interviews per year, made employment offers, negotiated salary and benefit requirements, extended offers, and conducted new-hire orientation training including rolling fingerprints, processing I-9’s, W-4’s, and background checks w/ WSP. Developed and conducted trainings on Staff Retention for managers.
