Cloud Person
Software Architect
Responsible for understanding the needs of the business and implementing scalable solutions that solve the business needs—from requirements gathering, to prototyping, through implementation and delivery of the solution, and operations. Custom policy handler developed per role down to the field level granularity. This allows for an abstracted way to have Read/Write/Access logs. Use of Elasticsearch for full text search driven off of automatic logging of events. Ready/Response time checks set in place with an ephemeral pattern for health and wellness checks. Contracts guaranteed between all client types to ensure compatibility and ease of reuse between groups. Dockerized setup to allow for all downstream teams to deploy and test the same exact containers that get deployed to production. Style guides created and followed with constant auto documentation generation per container. Auto generation of types based upon the GraphQL contract to reduce runtime errors and ease of use in client generation. Work with teams in Swift, Kotlin, Python and React to ensure good coding practice and patterns. Boiler plates for proper authorization handling when integrating with third parties. JWT, HMAC, Bearer tokens etc. for AWS, Stripe, and Health Care companies. Work across teams to reduce the friction of manual regression testing. Utilize TerraForm, AWS, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Docker, React, Elixir, Graphql, JWT, Postgresql, ElasticSearch, Redis. Owner • 07/2017 – present
Principal Software Engineer
Supported Malware Analysis and scoring as a product in conjunction with the NetWitness suite. Reworked the packaging of the Java service with SystemD and Upstart. Worked closely with QA using Java and Spring boot to bring out features driven in an agile fashion. Worked both in a sandboxed environment (due to the ongoing malware analysis) as well as an enterprise network environment and ensured proper airgap hygiene. Due to limited hardware availability and manual operations practices, I took the initiative to prototype an OpenStack environment using a small subset of hardware to prove out a virtualized and automated deployment environment. I drove the adoption of OpenStack taking older idling hardware and creating a bare metal cloud which ran OpenStack. Working with every layer I went through and reconfigured the physical layout, switching, routing, and virtual layers. Collaborated across the business teams and implemented automation which brought service build and test times down from days to hours. Documented and trained others on the process of treating hardware as "cattle" instead of "pets" from the physical layout all the way to the upgrading of services. This helped drive a consistent experience and expectation for products to be brought in and tested. This enabled complete remote management with scheduled maintenance upgrades. For my efforts in supporting and driving the virtualization and automation efforts, I received the Architecture VP technology showcase award.
