Coordinates and conducts programing for approximately 450 military aligned students across 8 campuses and online. The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs is responsible for certifying students for US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) educational benefits; providing programming to enrich the educational experience; and assuring compliance with federal, state and college directives in relation to Veteran and dependent educational benefits.

Participated in IAVAs Storm the Hill 2011 as a veteran advocate. The main goal was to increase awareness of issues facing our nation’s most recent generation of combat veterans and outline strategies to solve the complex issues. My team conducted 23 meetings with members of Congress and Veterans Administration leadership. We discussed IAVA’s 2011 Policy Agenda with a focus on veteran unemployment to help America’s Next Greatest Generation. Continued to volunteer for membership drives and coordinated/executed over 20 local VetTogethers to increase awareness locally and connect Veterans and Supporters.

Monitors the colleges Military, Veteran and family member student services (MVS); certifies students for US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) educational benefits; provides academic program advising for MVS students; and assures compliance with federal, state and college directives in relation to Veteran and dependent educational benefits. Tracked, scheduled, and ensured MVS student funds are posted to student accounts.  Assists students in applying for a wide variety of DVA programs. Serves as a liaison for Veterans Affairs with academic division chairpersons, academic advisors, and administrative personnel; provides assistance in resolving problems in relation to MVS student issues. Update, develop and implement a Veterans Services website which CCAC currently uses. Participate in the Veterans Education Alliance in the Pittsburgh area to share best practices and develop a network of Institutions of Higher Learning focused on providing the best education possible to MVS students. Consulted with Veterans regarding their academic concerns and assisted them in accessing internal and external resources to address their needs; served as a Veteran student advocate.

Developed a comprehensive program for Military Aligned Students focused on individual academic success, tailored counseling, and program completion. Internal auditing of staff processes and knowledge drove process improvement and staff training. Resulted in increasing Military Aligned Student population from less than 1% (8 students) of total student online population to just over 10% (257 students). Academic achievement for Military Aligned Graduates was demonstrated by just over 2/3 of the 110 graduates earning academic honors and 7% with a 4.0 GPA. Additionally 40% of the graduates continued with a follow on degree.

Presented classes on explosives and explosive safety to service members. Focused on explosive and explosive effects, identification of explosives by type, and explosive hazards and safety precautions. Conducted testing with explosive materials in a controlled environment.

Managed, planned, and executed military support actions for a Weapons of Mass Destruction Control Element responsible for developing plans, training, and mission requirements for immediate worldwide and stateside response. Provided Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High Yield Explosive expertise support to Northern Command and other government agencies under the Homeland Defense Plan during consequence management operations. Created training plans and managed the daily operations and readiness of a cross-functional team.

Planned, managed, and implemented Explosive Ordnance Disposal support for Army forces in Korea. Evaluated community emergency response plans under the National Incident Management System. Provided recommendations to community Mayors and assisted with the development of agreements between U.S. Forces and Korean first responders. Served as the primary advisor to the Chief Operations Officer for Explosive Ordnance Disposal matters. Prepared performance reports and recommended promotions/awards.

Developed and taught American Council on Education recognized courses in logistics management to junior and mid-level logistics managers. Monitored trends in logistics management and changes in DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations to ensure the most current information was presented. Mentored college graduates in oral and written communication, leadership, and logistics management to prepare them for their first management position.

Managed company of 16 specialized individuals and 5 multi-functional support personnel in support of the United States Secret Service, local law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and military operations in Iraq. Responsible for ensuring DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations were upheld while working with hazardous materials associated with explosives. Maintained the readiness and accountability of over $8 million in equipment. Provided formal mentoring for 2 operational managers. Established/Maintained relationships with State and Federal law enforcement agencies to ensure timely support for routine and emergency needs. Prepared performance reports and recommended promotions/awards. Evaluated requirements, provided guidance, and approved training program needed to maintain employee skill sets.

Served as second in command of 130 employees. Supervised staff of 12 administrative professionals and provided informal mentoring to 3 Logistics Managers. Reported directly to executive manager. Liaised with cross-functional leadership throughout organization in coordinating logistics efforts. Collaborated with maintenance managers in repair and upkeep of vehicles and equipment. Developed and revised logistics and administrative processes and authored documentation detailing various operational procedures. Interfaced with Material Management Center to determine source of supply delivery discrepancies and coordinate adjustments to supply chain. Operated complex supply software linking worldwide distribution networks. Maintained supply and maintenance transaction records. Created and managed training schedules for three teams with up to 40 individuals each. Prepared performance reports and recommended promotions/awards.
