An enthusiastic project manager and relationship builder with over 20 years of experience in the technology industry. Diverse experience ranging from public service in the government sector, to being both a leader and a team player in the corporate world, to wearing the many hats required in a bootstrap startup. In my corporate roles, I managed staff, territory, and vehicle fleets, geocoded navigable map databases from inception to production, trained staff on software and processes, and collaborated with international teams developing and deploying new technology globally. As a principal member of a technology startup, my role was business development, taking full control of communications, marketing, and management of customers. Area Manager, Pacific Northwest

Navteq

I managed a staff of 10 Geographic Analysts, located in 3 different field offices in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, and Boise). When I was first promoted to Area Manager, there was no office in Boise, so I located office space, secured the lease, and hired the staff for this office to get it up and running. My territory of the Pacific Northwest included 5 states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana. My staff performed all of the database creation and update duties for these states, as well as helping in other areas as needed and required. Our team was tasked with ambitious goals for new map product, and we delivered our high-quality databases (confirmed through subsequent Quality tests) on time and on budget.I was responsible for all staffing decisions in my territory: hiring, termination, rewards, discipline, reviews, and training. I was fortunate to have dedicated staff and a genuine bond with my employees; I respected their work and they were willing to work hard and accurately for me. Discipline problems were addressed appropriately through my managers and our company's HR staff. My team and I were a harmonious and effective work force.I was also the fleet manager for my territory, and was responsible for all maintenance and tracking of 6 company fleet vehicles. I participated in vehicle selection and review teams to identify the best field vehicles to use for our particular needs. My staff and I were regularly chosen to perform UAT on new prototype field equipment prior to larger-scale rollouts, and our recommendations and evaluations were used to help establish standard field equipment.

Apr 2004 - Jun 2006

Senior Geographic Analyst

Us

I was hired to open the then-new Portland Field Office for Navigation Technologies. The company was based in Sunnyvale, California at the time, and later moved its headquarters to Chicago. My initial title was "Research Analyst," (later changed to Field Analyst, then Geographic Analyst) and my role was to obtain, evaluate, and test source material for the creation of a navigable map database for the greater Portland metro area. I established initial contacts with local, regional, and government agencies in order to acquire the necessary maps, data tables, and Points of Interest (POI) data required to create the company's mapping products. Sources were field-verified using qualitative testing procedures, cataloged and indexed, and shipped to production teams in Sunnyvale for geocoding into the map database. My office was also one of the pilot test groups for training of coding to be completed in the field offices. My co-worker and I were responsible for the initial coding of a significant portion of the Portland database, and once coding was completed by all teams, we were solely responsible for the maintenance and update of this database. The database was updated through fieldwork on paper plots in the early days, and later through using GPS tied into the company's proprietary mapping software. NavTech regularly performed quality testing measures of the Portland database, and our scores were consistently in the top 5% of all its databases globally.Field work and travel factored heavily into my time as an RA/FA/GA, and my research, collection, and coding skills were highly valued by my managers and peers. I was selected from a small group of candidates to work in Lille, France, for a 4-month period in 1998, to assist with a high-priority project to update the quality of the artery network in that country. I relished the opportunity to work in another country, and I bonded well with my colleagues, both professionally and personally.
