Groundstar is a holding company of three early-stage subsidiaries connected through patented technology and advanced materials platforms. In the near term, prototypes of intelligent store shelves are being built to enable omnichannel item-level inventory management and to provide the ultimate consumer shopping convenience. In the mid-term, we are creating geoscale, circular economy solutions for carbon capture, climate adaptation and carbon negative technologies. Lastly, we are developing advanced materials and on-demand additive manufacturing of ultra-lightweight composites in the aerospace, automotive, industrial goods and building products verticals.

We are an inaugural cohort of five companies in this cleantech accelerator based in Knoxville, TN. Groundstar is in the climate tech space. Our core is advanced materials focusing on carbon capture for Direct Air Capture and the hard-to-abate sectors (power, transportation, industrial). These sectors constitute 60% of total global emissions. Our solution is solid sorbents based in nanomaterials. The business model is razor and blade. The TAM is $34B on materials alone. The SOM is $1.3B. In this cohort, we accomplished customer and ecosystem partnership development. These include a DAC customer LOI, refinement of customer qualification protocol, and revenue enhancing value proposition. Potential non-dilutive resources and hard assets for evaluations were identified.

Led Team Neptune (10 members) in developing a go-to-market strategy and market technology fit for capture capture in the maritime industry.

B2B e-commerce supply chain enterprise. Responsible for P&L, operations, investor relations, administrative, human resources, finance, fund raising, and outside service providers.

P&L responsibility of global division – sales, distribution, business development, marketing, product development, manufacturing, patent portfolio, HR and monthly reporting to the Board of Directors.

The firm is a manufacturer and product developer of carbon nanotubes for aerospace, defense and industrial products. Responsibilities include business models, strategic patent portfolio, and product applications in core markets; identify and secure venture capital for manufacturing expansions; design and implement scaling options within EHS constraints; develop and implement quality assurance systems of unit operations; deliver flight-tested applications.

Responsible for Global R&D in product and process development, research platforms, product launches, pilot plant, analytical, product stewardship, and regulatory compliance. Launched two key technology platforms in nonwovens for filtration and techncial specialty. Created a global innovative culture via Connect & Develop to target $50M in product portfolio

Responsibilities include product development, technology commercialization and consulting services in the solar photovoltaic market, technology transfer from government to commercial sectors, high value film lamination, outdoor display, renewable energy and material PVC replacement, water conservation and capital formation of start-ups. Serves as executive advisor to mid-market private equity funds in the flexible and rigid packaging space.

A $4B rigid and flexible film packaging company in the food, pharmaceutical and industrial markets.Berry Plastics - Flexible Films Division ($1.1B) - VP - R&PD:Lead teams to create strategic product plans for division; drive coordination with marketing, sales, finance and operations to secure capital and to commercialize platforms. Implement six sigma processes to ensure sustainable manufacturing practices of new products.Covalence Specialty Materials ($0.5B) - VP - R&PD:Lead R&D integration of two divisions to drive interdivisional synergy in coextruded films for food and medical end uses.Tyco Plastics and Adhesives - Ludlow Coated Products Division ($0.25B) - VP - R&PD, QA:Restructure R&D personnel to align new product portfolio to business needs in laminated films for food, medical, military; in next generation housewrap and code development for sheathing panel. Hire QA Director and restaff personnel to implement cGMP practices and internal audits.
