Completed an American College of Mohs Surgery fellowship in cutaneous oncology at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California. Extra specializations in venous/lymphatic medicine and laser cosmetic dermatology.

Conceptualized and completed retrospective case series on ~8,000 Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) patients. Prepared case report on penile squamous cell carcinoma treated with MMS. Shadowed mentor and learned surgical and office management techniques

Milestones accomplished during my four years: helped to create student satisfaction survey and 30-page analysis included in the official EVMS LCME reaccreditation report, resulting in successful eight-year school reaccreditation (2011-2012). Spearheaded AOA Medical Honor Society Visiting Professorship and Internal Medicine Grand Rounds by nationally renowned speaker on pharmaceutical industry practices (2011-2012). Spearheaded Community Care Day (2013, 2015). Directed minority recruitment fairs for aspiring medical students at national AAMC conferences in Philadelphia (2013) and San Diego (2014). Helped organize Joining Forces Wellness Week (2013).

Selected as single student liaison nationwide to advise the Group on Student Surveys. My duties included helping to design and adjust the Pre-Medical Questionnaire (PMQ), Medical Student Questionnaire (MSQ), and Graduate Questionnaire (GQ) to reflect current trends and needs, especially with the new MCAT2015; attending bimonthly tele-conferences and meetings at AAMC headquarters in Washington, D.C.; reporting updates from the OSR to the Advisory Committee; attending Southern region and National AAMC meetings.

Elected by representatives of each degree-granting program to lead the student governance body. Oversaw a budget of $30,000. Organized and presided over monthly meetings to set school-wide priorities, plan large-scale events and student wellness initiatives, run the biannual club fair, vote on initiating student clubs. Interfaced with Offices of Development, Alumni Relations, Student Affairs, and the President.

Spearheaded organization of large-scale community service event, including health screenings (vision/Lions Eye Bank, dental, skin cancer, blood pressure, blood glucose, lipids), health information booths from 30+ clubs and outside organizations, high school science fair, and outdoor activities. Enlisted 150+ volunteers and allied health professionals, and TV, radio, and newspaper coverage. Introduced healing through the arts via music stage collaboration with local Tidewater Arts Outreach.

Chosen as Master of Ceremonies for retirement ceremony and building dedication for EVMS President Harry T. Lester on April 11, 2013. Attended large-scale events, gave donor tours, greeted dignitaries.

Organized talks for medical students by surgeons. Raised funds for five cleft lip surgeries. Created research opportunities for medical students by affiliating with international headquarters in Norfolk.

Taught fellow medical students. Helped organize framework of course available to all medical students for elective credit and medical Spanish certificate.

Represented voice of EVMS students to local medical society. Lobbied in Richmond, Virginia on behalf of Virginia physicians and medical students. Provided networking opportunities for medical students. Attended monthly business meetings.

Functioned as think-tank, developed reports and resolutions on medical education topics. Developed cultural competency programming and case-based learning module “Redefining Your Clinical Perspective: Cultural Competency in Patient Care” for national AMA conference, Hawaii 2012.

Screened and tracked cancer patients in Phase I/II clinical trials of investigational new drugs (INDs) in Early Drug Development Center. Performed in-house study to streamline archival tumor tissue request process.

Used High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to analyze hepatitis delta virus protein mutants to elucidate normal HDV protein functions in lab of John Casey, Ph.D.

Performed nuclear export factor protein study in human retroviruses lab. Used cell culture, ELISA, IHC, fluorescence microscopy, Western blot, plasmid DNA isolation/purification, and some small animal surgery. Worked in lab of Marie-Louise Hammarskjold, Ph.D., and David Rekosh, Ph.D.

Taught during summer months. Several of my students scored high marks and gained admission into top tier universities around the country.

Purified and analyzed cat and dust mite allergen from patient bed liners to identify benefits of woven liners. Data collected was presented in Letter to the Editor of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, October 2007.

Implemented Persian poetry readings, increased social gatherings, tea and pastries nights, and two very well-received large events (music, dramatic performances, and poetry readings).

Selected as one of 20 students (of hundreds of applicants) to participate. Developed skills in conflict management, personal missions, values alignment, and self-awareness.
