    Working with a transgenic rat model carrying Swedish and Indiana amyloid precursor protein gene mutations found in patients with Familial Alzheimer's Disease. These animals are born normal and age to show cognitive deficits at 3 months of age, and complete Alzheimer's disease pathology at 12 months. Interrogating specific neural substrates of pathology while evaluating novel pharmacological agents with therapeutic aim.

    Worked with African Green monkey population found on the islands of St. Kitt's and Nevis in the Caribbean. Showed specific upregulation of inhibitory phosphorylation to the transcription factor CREB at serine-129 in activity-deprived regions. Further showed that monocular enucleation produces a nuclear accumulation of the CREB transcriptional co-regulator, CRTC1. These findings resolved questions surrounding CREB induction by pointing to a critical role of CRTC1 in all instances of CREB-mediated gene transcription.
