As Interim News Director, I'm in charge of a newsroom of nine full-time employees, at least two freelancers as well as interns. I'm responsible for the editorial decisions behind the news stories heard on WABE. In other words, what stories are covered and how those stories are covered.In my position, I decide when local news stories will air during All Things Considered and Morning Edition. I also edit those stories for time, content and understanding.Using various methods and news sources, I stay on top of breaking and developing news and determine news assignments accordingly.Additionally, I lead efforts behind special events, such as election coverage and disaster coverage, participate in station strategy meetings and help the organization meet yearly fundraising goals.I also work regularly with NPR to determine how WABE can provide national coverage of stories from Metro Atlanta.

As Assistant News Director, I assumed editorial responsibility for the WABE newsroom on an as needed basis. While serving as Assistant News Director, I also balanced my time as a reporter covering Georgia and Atlanta political stories.During this time, I created, produced, edited and executed a web series on a proposed sales tax for regional transportation projects.I also played a key role in WABE's election specials as a reporter and helped produce segments for election specials.

During my first two years with Public Broadcasting Atlanta, I was WABE's local host of NPR's Morning Edition. In that role, I produced local newscasts, talk breaks, and reports about the top stories of the day for All Things Considered.As a general assignment reporter, I covered top political issues for Atlanta and Georgia.

As a freelance writer, I was assigned to stories for CNN International, including World Report, World Business Today, Prism and I-Desk. I wrote wire copy for broadcast and formatted scripts for television under tight deadlines.

In my four years as a full-time employee for Georgia Public Broadcasting, I anchored morning newscasts, produced news reports for afternoon newscasts as well as hosted and reported for the station's weekly news magazine and consumer call-in program.As a reporter, I filed stories for NPR's newscasts and news magazine shows. I was also an on-air fundraiser during radio and television pledge drives.

I was personally selected by NPR National Desk Senior Editor Ellen Weiss to work from NPR’s national desk. Selection was based on the quality of my feature stories produced for Georgia Public Broadcasting and NPR.Worked with national desk editor and NPR staff members on reporting, editing, voicing, writing and production.Produced national features and news spots on various stories, including the White House, the U.S. Congress, Arlington National Cemetery and the Washington Nationals, among other stories.
