Assist and lead aspects of this National Science Foundation, multisite, funded research is exploring and examining the experiences of undergraduate Black STEM students as they think about their identities as Black people navigating STEM fields. This research is being conducted across multiple institutions, with American University, the University of Illinois-Chicago, the University of Texas-Austin, Georgia State University, Tennessee State University, and North Carolina A&T State University.Conducting literature reviews and presenting findings to multiple institutions. Constructing recruitment and interview protocols for focus groups. Conducting focus groups totaling 125 participants. Establishing data collection and analysis protocols and processes.

Instruct 2 course sections of 150 minutes each week in the Fall and Spring semesters. Synthesize and analyze assigned articles and online content; compile supplementary readings and research to inform classroom instruction. Prepare weekly lesson plans to include dialogue facilitation and active learning components.Support students in classes with decision-making, conflict resolution, time management, stress management, and goal setting. Assist Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) funded project on equity-based college teaching to increase Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Low-Income student retention in STEM.Conduct landscape analysis of STEM grants, inclusive excellence teaching initiatives, and policies within higher education institutions from the National Science Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.Create a mixed-method study of quantitative and qualitative data analysis for reporting on transformative institutional practices for equity-based teaching.Present research findings to the Equity-Based Teaching Collective of faculty from American University, Florida International University, and the University of Connecticut.
