Responsible for project management of internal platform and external client projects from inception through implementation. Started at the inception of introducing PMO processes to Vail. Working with other new Project Managers and learning Vail’s business models, a Project Management Handbook was created to ensure a consistent approach and success for Vail as it continues to expand. Depending on the business model, Vail has used PMI, Scrum, and basic iterative development. First project assigned was the Vail Routing and Call Control (RACC). The project was over 18 months past the original completion date, by introducing some basic change control methodology and taking responsibility for requirements and design was able to bring the project to completion. As Vail’s most successful product, it has continued to add new features. For this product, I have been the technical project manager, a key technical lead and contribute to specifying business features during my time at Vail. I have managed new client onboarding and feature requests for those clients. I have pushed for and implemented a regression suite eliminating production deployment issues. I have successfully worked at coordinating the different technical components, Voice platform (C++), Web (Ruby on Rails), Database (MS SQL), and Caching (Erlang), bringing the gaps of each team’s methodologies. Have project managed numerous other projects including; reporting/data warehousing requirements, large outbound campaign, customer IVR applications, Prosodica agent interaction, Linux migration from Solaris, and data center migration.

IS Manager, (June 2009 – October 2009), Product Engineering, West Interactive CorporationHands on Manager of a group of 5 Java and 3 .Net Engineers. Responsible for all outbound notification platforms, integrating with other West Interactive Corporation (WIC) systems, incorporating new product ideas and determining future feasibility of each outbound platform. Responsible for implementation of client projects. Responsible for resource management for the team including, hiring, performance reviews, Salary Actions, resource growth and disciplinary actions. Resources are located in Chicago & Omaha.West consolidated offices to Omaha, closing the Chicago office in October 2009. IS Manager, (April 2008 – June 2009), West Notifications GroupHands on Manager of a group of 7 Java Engineers, 2 off shore Engineers and 3 DBAs. Responsible in moving the solutions forward, performance reviews, Salary Actions, resource growth and disciplinary actions. Resources are located in Chicago, Omaha, & India. The Engineering group was responsible for the customer preference controlled outgoing messaging (Voice, E-mail, SMS, etc.). Implemented design tenets to drive the direction of the platform. In order to reduce the time to develop a customer solution, the platform was changed to multi-tenant and product driven from complete customization. (Java, Spring, Hibernate, GWT, ActiveMQ) The DBAs were responsible for all database aspects for the whole West Notifications Group including Reporting and Data Warehousing. Lead the team in reducing Report Creation from 3 to 4 weeks to 1 hour via a table driven design and reduced the time for pulling data for billing from 4+ days to online daily. (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS)

Project lead, design & develop corporate intranet applications for internal CNA IT. Projects include: Entering, prioritizing and tracking business requests through a formal work flow process & supply/demand allocations & tracking. (WASD4 / RAD7, Java, J2EE, Oracle, JSP, JavaScript). Development Lead on project to implement Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes utilizing the BMC Remedy/ITSM 7.x suite and NewScale. The project included Service Level Management, Asset & Configuration Management, Change Management, Incident Management, Event Management, Request Fulfillment & Problem Management. (5/07 – 4/08) Developed and maintained intranet/Internet site for Document management, Collaboration, & Expert Advice using Vignette Collaboration 5.6. Solutions lead for upgrade to version 7.1. Responsible for all Requirements/High Level Design Deliverables, Vendor RFP, Securing Budget & Reconsolidation and Mentor for Development Lead. (Python/Jython) (3/04-11/07).Provide guidance and direction for the Heath Benefit Billing & Claims system focusing on change and source control. (iSeries(AS400), CL, COBOL, RPG (III & ILE), VB, Oracle). Project discontinued due to sale of Business to Hartford. (10/03 - 12/03)Internal Systems was outsourced in the 1st quarter 2008.

Responsible for developing an electronic commerce development team and infrastructure for the Institutional Markets division of CNA Life via a project by project basis. Projects include: Development of a multi-tier quoting application running on the Internet, Client/Server and standalone modes. Development of a table-based system to separate out text from coding and the use of template processing to separate out format from coding. Creation of a wrapper site to bring together applications and other sites under a single presentation and security. All systems were made to be compliant with CNA’s hosting environments. Technologies: Java, JADE, XML/XSLT/FO, CORBA(VisiBroker), JavaScript, Websphere, Jserve, Apache, Solaris, and Oracle.

Manager of a group of 8 to 10 resources. The group was responsible for all Electronic Commerce and EDI applications for the division (Federal Markets, Life Reinsurance, Group Benefits, & Provider Markets). Responsibilities included advocacy of new technologies including Internet/intranet, EDI, reviewing & approval of all Electronic Commerce projects, and providing technical support & guidance. Technologies: ASP, VB Script, PERL, IIS, Netscape, BSDI, Oracle, Sybase, VPN(Entrust), and Web-based e-mail(EdgeMail) Started and co-lead an Internet Special Interest Group (SIG) for the division. The SIG promoted and educated its members on Internet technologies. (8/98 - 6/03)

Design, Code and Maintain a new application system to support the Synthetic Guaranteed Investment Contract (GIC) products. System was written in Visual Basic 3.0, Sybase, UNIX, C, PERL, and COBOL.Part of a team to review the existing Pension Operations Systems including User “Shadow Systems”. The project developed an all-inclusive recommendation for a future system, which included Data Warehousing, IVR, and Intranet solutions. In the second phase of the project, I researched and developed a list of possible Vendors to replace the main application systems. I then contacted each Vendor, reviewed their systems to our requirements, coordinated Vendor demonstrations and helped to select the final candidates through a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process. In the third phase, I prepared and ran the Cost Benefit Analysis.

Managed a group of 5 resources including performance reviews and Salary Actions. I was responsible for the conversion of the Traditional life products to a PC based system. Conversion included data from 5 major Mainframe systems. Reformat the Mainframe information into the new PC system format, download converting to ASCII via PC CA Realia COBOL jobs. Then transmit the data to the Nashville servers. We converted 1,416 different products and over 250,000 policies. Acted as a liaison for Viaticus to obtain CNA services in ordering PC equipment and Facility planning. Unit Manager for the Traditional Life Administration Systems (3/91 - 7/94). Managed a group of 6 to 12 resources including performance reviews, Salary Actions, resource growth and disciplinary actions. The group was responsible for the implementation of new Life products and the on going maintenance of the Life Administration system. In addition, I was part of the Life Product design team.

Team leader for the Life/Health New Business System (9/87 - 2/91). Lead team of 6 to 10 resources including performance reviews. I managed the group and was responsible for implementing new Life and Health products and the on going maintenance of the new business system. At that time, we expanded the system to process Disability Income and Long Term Care creating a new feed to an existing health system.Project Leader for the Life New Business System (3/87 - 8/87). Lead of project team of 3 resources.
