Effective February 1, 2017, I have taken over leadership and development of the Advisory & Risk practice of Crowe MacKay LLP. Effective February 22, 2016, Mr. Olson assumed leadership for the FortisBC Alternative Energy Services Inc. (FAES) business in developing alternative energy solutions for customers across British Columbia. FAES has a number of operating facilities in place and is positioned to add to that portfolio over the next few years. With the ongoing focus on climate initiatives, FAES is positioned, along with our other Fortis utilities, to offer solutions to customers that will assist the province in meeting its climate goals.FAES is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc., the largest investor-owned energy delivery utility in Canada. FAES, an affiliate of FortisBC Energy Inc., is a business specializing in designing, owning, operating and maintaining regulated utility thermal assets to help its clients address deferred maintenance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support sustainability objectives and improve the performance of thermal energy systems in buildings.

Mr. Olson joined the Kelowna office of FortisBC as Assistant Director, Internal Audit beginning in October 2012. He replaced the retiring Director, Internal Audit as of April 1, 2013. His mandate is to continue enhancement of governance, risk and compliance during the ongoing integration of the electric and gas companies. He will also be responsible for oversight of his department both in Kelowna (electric) as well as Vancouver (gas).FortisBC Inc., FortisBC Energy Inc., FortisBC Energy (Vancouver Island) Inc., and FortisBC Energy (Whistler) Inc. make up the Fortis Group of companies in B.C. The head office for the natural gas companies is in Vancouver and head office for the electricity operations is in Kelowna. This group of companies is indirectly owned by Fortis Inc. Mr. Olson joined the Kelowna office of PRA Group as a Director, Internal Audit in September 2005. As of 2008, he became an incorporated partner primarily responsible for Enterprise Risk Management consulting services for the PRA practice, inclusive of all current British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Maritimes, and Caribbean clients. In addition to this responsibility, Mr. Olson acted in the capacity of Chief Audit Executive for a number of clients in Western Canada as well as carrying out various ad hoc engagements related to audit, governance, fraud investigation and efficiency reviews.Mr. Olson was also the Director of Marketing for practice development initiatives, proposal development, and client communications. In this capacity he was responsible for expanding the operations of PRA Group from British Columbia to the rest of Canada as well as other worldwide opportunities in the Caribbean and Belize.

Mr. Olson joined the Edmonton office of PricewaterhouseCoopers as an Associate in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services line of service in 1998. He has worked to provide assurance services to a vast array of organizations including energy, forestry, not-for-profit, provincial government, communication, information/media and education. He transferred to the Performance Improvement & Risk Management line of service in the Advisory Services practice in May of 2002. There he has provided key assistance in undertaking Sustainable Forestry Initiative audits throughout North America, has conducted extensive benchmarking of North American lumber and woodlands forestry operations, Global lumber forestry operations, and has provided crucial assistance to the Alberta provincial government in assessing their stand in the softwood lumber dispute with the United States. He also actively worked conducting environmental auditing based upon the completion of prerequisite ISO 14001: Lead Environmental Auditor training.Although pursuing significant developments in the forest industry, he has also taken responsibility in various project roles to work with local businesses in planning and implementing the requirements of Multilateral Instrument 52-109 (Canadian Sarbanes-Oxley) in conjunction with Section 404 of the U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act. He also maintains involvement with ongoing assurance services as either an external auditor or providing contractual assistance to various internal audit departments.
