Due to a lack of experience in MS SQL Server databases, Van Dijk’s management (The Learning Network nowadays) asked Edwin to crossover to the IT Operations team. His focus is the day-to-day monitoring of all MS SQL database servers and help the developers in optimizing their code in such a manner that queries that are run on production systems run smooth and have as less possible influence on the overall performance of the systems. Another big responsibility is the continuous improvement of the implemented data recovery solutions. Obviously, when running a heavy hit OLTP system, no, or at least as less possible data is lost in case of an outage. This could be a hardware malfunction or a corrupted database due to loss of connectivity when transactions are in progress or any disaster that could happen to an environment. Edwin introduced techniques that enabled TLN to secure their data with a maximum loss of data for 0 to 10 minutes, without having any High Availability solutions in place such as Always On regarding MS SQL. Early 2015 Edwin was approached by Van Dijk to look at their current data warehouse and BI proposition and help them professionalize their entire BI landscape.With his broad experience Edwin took on the challenge as a teamlead, to help them lift things to a higher level. After having worked as a consultant for six years, Edwin took the oportunity to work close to home (800 meters) when he came across a job opening at Unigarant in his hometown Hoogeveen.In this role Edwin was mainly responsible for high performance ETL processes and the preperation of (SAS) datasets for the business users. After a selection procedure between six candidate employers, Edwin choose to become a consultant for Ciber.Being new to the consultancy world, Edwin started of as a Medior Consultant Business Intelligence, rejecting a promotion after one year. With more projects, clients and consultancy experience under his belt, he gladly accepted this promotion one year later and became a Senior Consultant.
