He was a Paramedic for about 8 years with the local Emergency Ambulance Service Chapter under the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Throughout his progressive experience as a Paramedic, he dealt with a vast range of cases ranging from medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest cases and heart attacks, to traumatic emergencies including road traffic accidents and industrial accidents. His exceptional and outstanding performance as a Paramedic has led to him being awarded the Home Team Commendation Award in 2003 and 2004 by the Commissioner of SCDF.Mr. Leong Chee Wai was appointed as the role of Overall In-Charged Paramedic at Changi Fire Station from the year 2002 till 2004In the year 2005, Mr. Leong was appointed as Senior Operation Management at Singapore Civil Defence Force HQ Medical departmentMr Leong also played a very active role in all SCDF routine exercise coordination, planning and management, some of which were of very large scale and involved simulated incidents like hazmat incidents, biological threats, chemical warfare and much moreIn January 2006, Mr. Leong helped coordinate and strategically plan out one of Singapore’s largest exercise event, Exercise NorthStar.In May 2006, Mr. Leong was given the opportunity to lead a team that comprises Paramedics and Paramedic Trainees to Central Java Indonesia on an overseas mission. Serving as a relief team, Mr. Leong was attached in one of the district hospital to render aid to the earthquake victims. With his effort, he was commended with an overseas medal by the Minister of State Singapore
