About Edwin Palencia
While doing my Bachelors in Chemistry, I was learning about biotech companies and FDA approvals. I noticed that these companies often operate at a loss. I began to realize that a majority of small-cap biotech firms are financially structured with significantly more debt than equity, growing my fascination with corporate finance. This paradigm shift in understanding capital structures made me realize that the people who play a large part in pushing innovation forward are the people who finance these companies. They enable scientists to commit to their research. Scientists are useless without capital.Realizing that I wanted to work in an industry with a greater impact on society, I realized I needed to learn more about the business and finance side of things. With hopes to consolidate my quantitative skills in chemistry, I applied for a Master of Finance degree. Currently, I am working in Real Estate Valuations at Moss Adams to better leverage my skills to understand valuations specifically in the real estate industry.
