Lead design engineering team by identifying projects that increase production yield and fundamental understanding of plutonium in the foundry processes. I create schedules, allocate resources, and provide guidance to engineers in order to successfully execute LANL’s mission
Oversee and support development of plutonium casting furnace by creating FEA models in conjunction with experimental validation. Models are created in LANL software, Truchas, to optimize heat transfer from the current induction heating power supplies (IHPS). These models also help us understand other areas of improvement with electromagnetic interactions and parasitic heat loads. Development includes all aspects of the casting system such as IHPS, controls, coils, and cooling system. Currently coordinating with project managers to ensure timely installation and start up of production furnaces used in pit production mission. Commissioning a new induction furnace requires write up of work authorizing documents, testing equipment in a cold lab, programming controls, and training new process engineers and operators. As a senior engineer on the foundry casting team, I also serve as the point of contact for problems encountered during production and provide troubleshooting help and solutions to process engineers.
Working as a post-masters student at Los Alamos National Laboratory. My main duties consisted of working on a foundry operations project to upgrade and optimize the performance of a pit manufacturing process. By working on this project I have become familiar with hydronic system design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, P&ID's for construction, process engineering, PLC's, vacuum and induction heating.
