Engineering Manager
Current
Manager Engineering
This Bussiness Unit within Strukton is active in energy projects, mostly related to electric energy supply and distribution for grid operators and industrial large consumers. High-Voltage (upto 380 kV AC) is a specific key-competence within this field. Projects are mostly turn-key, where different sub-contractors are involved in all stages of the process. I was responsible for the engineering department (20~25 FTE), where all the engineering activities within a project are being executed. I am working on all kinds of (engineering-) process improvements, with key elements as control of scope, budget, quality and planning. Recently I introduced scrum to achieve more focus and team-commitment on the tasks within a project. Improving processes and interaction between engineering and other departments (sales, purchasing, realisation and commissioning) is what I aim at. I am also active with the capacity planning / scheduling and the personal- c.q. competence development of engineers.
Manager Development
As manager Development I am responsible for the Development department (10 FTE). This department is working on innovative projects (new products, product upgrades, product improvements), maintaining the standard for the actual product portfolio and high-level technical support towards other departments. Development projects vary in budget from 5 k€ to 2M€. The development department consists of professionals with a high level of education (Bachelor / Master) from several technical disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls, software, physics). Projects are often executed with external partners, for additional capacity as well as for very specific knowledge / competence areas.I have been working on the professionalisation of the execution of projects (budgets and scope) and the creation of more focus for development projects (less distraction from other processes). Key knowledge areas have been identified and knowledge/competence management is initiated.
Manager Technology
I was responsible for the departments Application Engineering (13 FTE) and R&D (12 FTE) and part of the MT.Application Engineering is responsible for the engineering and work preparation of power modules for client projects. This includes mechanical engineering and drawing, electrical engineering and schematics, software (PLC, HMI) and all documentation (manuals, BOM’s, etc.). The Application Engineering group had its own manager, reporting to me. Focus was mainly on optimising work processes and improving efficiency c.q. reducing lead times and costs while maintaining optimal quality levels. The R&D Department was continued as Development Department, where I became the department Manager (see description over there).
Mechanical Specialist Ups
I was (technically) responsible for all the mechanical aspects of the Hitec rotary UPS (baseframe, freewheelclutch, couplings, bearings, diesel engines, generators, vibration behaviour).
Project Manager
I was involved in the management of technical (mechanical) engineering projects in a team of 3 to 4 project engineers (a.o. development of The Nolet windmill, base frame and component development/optimisation for engines and gensets, compressor/pump stations, etc., gearbox noise and vibration competence development) for a number of companies (a.o. DSM, Siemens, Wärtsilä, Winergy, Zollern). First within the product group Power Machinery, later within the group Wind Energy, where the focus was mainly on mechanical validation and optimisation of wind turbine components (a.o. wind turbine gearboxes, machine frames, towers) for different companies (a.o. GE, DarwinD, Ecotècnia, GE, Jahnel Kestermann, Metso).
Project Engineer
I was involved I the execution of various types of projects, focussed on strength, dynamics, fatigue, noise and optimisation, for all kinds of machinery and components, for several companies (a.o. ASML, Flender, Lagerwey, NEG-Micon Philips, Stork, Siemens, Wärtsilä).
