I have 30 years of experience owning, running and building businesses. During this time, I have had the privilege of holding leadership roles during major crises - the Dot-Com crash, the Global Financial Crisis, the Christchurch Earthquake, and more recently the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these experiences, I have adapted my professional craft of agile, into a series of business practices for creating adaptive, responsive and resilient organisations. I have spoken around the world this topic, including London, San Francisco, Boston and Australia. I discovered Agile in 2002, 6 months after the original manifesto was published. As a software project manager, the concept of being adaptive to customers ever-changing needs appealed strongly and I started applying agile immediately. Throughout the following 18 years I pioneered agile adoption in NZ with some notable achievements• I bought Scrum co-creator Jeff Sutherland to NZ in 2010 and 2012• I became trainer number 8 at Scrum.org, providing Kiwi’s access to world class agile training. • I established and led the Agile Professionals Network in Christchurch. • I bought over 20 major agile thought-leaders to NZ to help open kiwis minds to the opportunities of agility. • I founded the Agile NZ Conference, to give Kiwi’s access to this thinking without having to travel overseas.• Transformed Agile Auckland from an interest group into a well-structured, fully funded community, designed to advocate for a change in how organisations operated. During this time we grew membership from 600 to over 3500 and engaged business leaders in the discussion.• Founded the Agile Leadership Collective – a community forum dedicated to managers and leaders interested in supporting one another apply agile ways of working to their organisations. I mainly work with • Corporates looking to transform their business into one that by default is adaptive to an ever-changing world. This includes strategy, operating model, org structure, leadership, culture, competency, and ways of working. • Medium sized NZ firms looking to build agility into their core DNA• Government departments looking to become more efficient and responsive to their constituents needs.
