The HIV Justice Network's mission is to collate, create and disseminate information and resources enabling individuals and communities to effectively advocate against the inappropriate use of the criminal law to regulate and punish people living with HIV.The principal goal of the HIV Justice Network is to connect, inform, educate, support and empower individuals and communities advocating for a fairer, just, rational, proportionate and limited use of laws, policies and practices to regulate and punish people living with HIV. This will result in more informed, empowered and connected advocates better able to challenge and influence the decision makers within their communities and on a national and regional basis, to stop unfair use of laws and influence creation of fairer ones.The Network has three main objectives:1. To monitor international developments in punitive laws and policies, their enforcement, and access to justice, to better understand the ‘who, what, where, why and how’ of laws, policies and practices that inappropriately regulate and punish people living with HIV. 2. To connect local, national, regional and global stakeholders, sharing information and resources to allow for targeted research and discussion of key issues, and identification of best practice models.3. To create practical resources to enable advocacy, empowerment and challenge through persuasive and pragmatic policy development and effective communication strategies.

Provided technical support for the development of PreP policy for people living with HIV. Other work included: editor of Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention: A Policy Framework (2011); adviser, researcher and writer for Global Criminalisation Scan (2008 onwards); rapporteur and report writer for Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention Technical Consultatation (2009); moderator and report writer for WHO Treatment Guidelines consultation (2009); editor / writer of New Prevention Technologies Advocacy Agenda (2012); moderator / report writer for advocacy tools to ensure that the needs of all key populations living with HIV are adequately represented at global decision bodies (2013).

Provided scientific and medical expertise for consensus building on the science and law relating to the criminalisation of HIV exposure and transmission.

Major achievements during this time include:Editing 50 editions of 'AIDS Treatment Update' / 'HIV Treatment Update' between 2003 and 2008, building on the newsletter's reputation as the leading source of information of living well with HIV in the UK, and further establishing the newsletter's advocacy voice on behalf of people living with HIV. During my time at NAM, I contributed more than 60 articles to the newsletter and over 400 news stories, conference reports and features to NAM's website, aidsmap.com.Lead author of ‘HIV forensics: The use of phylogenetic analysis as evidence in criminal investigation of HIV transmission’ (2007) for NAM/NAT, which was incorporated into Crown Prosecution Policy and Prosecutorial Guidance prosecuting cases involving the intentional or reckless sexual transmission of infection.My role at NAM included working as:• Editor, 'AIDS Treatment Update' / 'HIV Treatment Update' (2003-2008)• Contributing editor, aidsmap news (2003-2008)• Editor, 'Criminal HIV Transmission' (2007)• Editor, HIV Treatment Training Manual (2005)• Editor, HIV Treatment Training Manual (2003)
