EQC are one of the few government agencies that have migrated completely to the Cloud. When they started the work, it was decided that decommissioning the on-premises infrastructure would not be part of those migration projects. I was tasked with tidying up the technical debt and the overarching goal of removing the Datacom Cloud Services for Government (DCSG) portal that EQC consumed, as well as the decommission of the Datacentres.Along the journey we encountered several projects that had de-scoped part of their migration, which meant we needed to complete that work before we could decommission the on-premises infrastructure. We also needed to solve issues that had been ongoing for many years and prevented some infrastructure from being decommissioned. Many systems continued to use on-premise Active Directory (AD) for authentication, instead of being migrated to Azure AD at the time the systems were migrated. Some highlights were:• TOSCA – migrated authentication and Role Based Access Control from on-premises AD Controllers to Azure.• Migrate Active Directory Federated Services to Azure AD.• Implement Azure Virtual Desktop replacement for Remote Desktop Services servers that were end of life and were used by 3rd party vendors to access the Claims Management System & OnBase.• Complete Exchange migration so Exchange servers could be decommissioned.• Migrate printers to a cloud-based print server that connected to our WiFi network, so on-premises print servers could be decommissioned.Other tasks that influenced the Decommission of the Datacentres were to ensure nothing was using the old wired MPLS LAN & WAN.• Decommission old Christchurch office and implement new WiFi only network in the new office building.• Review and improve the WiFi only network in the Wellington office.• Decommission all wired network infrastructure from all EQC offices.
  • Spark New Zealand
    Senior Project Manager
Spark New Zealand Feb 2020 - Jun 2021
    Wellington & Wairarapa, New Zealand
Senior Project Manager working on the Oranga Tamariki Decommissioning programme as part of the separation of Oranga Tamariki from the Ministry of Social Development.Tasked with the following projects:• Deployed telephony solutions to OT offices and Residence to replace the existing VOIP phones and teleconferencing systems. This removed one of the last barriers to decommissioning the MSD switches at sites.• SEEMail implementation. This was completed successfully and was a dependency to the Email domain migrations taking place.• Email domain migrations. This project was the final stage of migrating the Email off the MSD mail systems and involved ensuring that the Service Management, Spam, Malware, Phishing, Safe links and Safe attachments settings were implemented as per best practice and tested prior to cutting the mx records over for the domains which removed the mail flow from the MSD system. • DNS migration. Implemented the Service Management, configuration of Azure DNS and the registration of the domains with LIverton Security who manage the .govt.nz domains for DIA. This allowed the successful cutover of the DNS records from the MSD servers to DNS in the OT Azure AD tenant.• Meeting Room Migrations. I took over this project in April towards the end of the pilot stage and moved the project forward into the Early Release Site stage and started the planning for the initial production deployment stage which will see the meeting room equipment deployed to an initial 200 rooms across 70 sites.
  • Ministry Of Health New Zealand
    Senior Project Manager
Ministry Of Health New Zealand Apr 2018 - Oct 2019
    Wellington & Wairarapa, New Zealand
Senior Technical Project Manager for O365 deployment to include email migration from Lotus Domino to O365. Shortly into the analysis of the proposed work it became clear that a program needed to be established and 8 initial projects were identified. The first 2 critical projects were assigned to me and had to be completed before the email migration could begin. These were:• Email address format and domain name change. This was completed successfully and due to the thorough analysis and testing there were no incidents reported following the deployment.• O365 ProPlus Deployment. This project was very complex due to the volume of applications that had never been upgraded to work with the latest versions of Office, coupled with the issue that there was no accurate list of all the applications used by the Ministry and who used them. A lot of time and effort was put into the analysis of the applications and building a solid test plan to ensure the deployments ran smoothly and that the user experience was a positive one.Additional streams that I managed were the network assessment, initial assessment and start-up of the application rationalisation and building of an application catalogue. I also ran the Windows 10 and hardware refresh projects for 2 months whilst the PM was on holiday, completing the planning stage, RFQ, evaluation of hardware and initial build and testing.
