As the Educational Leader at Gum Nut Preschool and Childcare, I guide and support a dynamic team of educators in delivering a high-quality, play-based curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of our children. My role centres on fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children thrive through exploration, collaboration, and creativity.I lead the design, implementation, and revaluation of the centre’s educational programs, ensuring alignment with current early childhood education guidelines and best practices, while also addressing the evolving needs and interests of the children. I mentor and coach educators, promoting their professional growth through reflective practice and supporting provisionally qualified teachers in obtaining their full registration.I oversee the creation and review of educational documentation, supporting the planning and developmental needs of each child. Additionally, I organise and manage inclusion support and funding in collaboration with PSFOs and Inclusion Professionals from the CCC. I also work closely with Early Years Engagement Program Facilitators and Kindergarten Improvement Advisors from VAEAI and DE to ensure that our programs meet and exceed the standards set by these bodies.My role involves building strong partnerships with families, educators, and external stakeholders to enhance children’s school readiness and overall well-being. I spearhead the integration of nature-based learning experiences, including the Bush Kinder program, and ensure that the centre’s policies remain up-to-date, inclusive, and safe for all. This includes securing and managing essential funding for key preschool programs, organising enriching incursions and excursions, and fostering a collaborative environment through weekly meetings among educators. Furthermore, I am responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring new educators and teachers, ensuring they align with our centre’s educational vision and values.

In my previous role as a teacher, I developed and implemented age-appropriate, play-based lesson plans and curricula designed to promote student engagement and facilitate learning, both within the centre and through the bush kinder programs. I embedded School Readiness throughout the program, ensuring children were well-prepared for their next educational steps. I spearheaded various diversity and inclusion initiatives, including programs for Pride Month, Cultural Exploration, and Indigenous Education, to create a more inclusive learning environment. My approach fostered a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that supported social and emotional development. I utilised a variety of teaching methods, such as hands-on activities, group projects, and interactive technology, to cater to diverse learning styles. Additionally, I collaborated closely with parents and guardians, providing feedback on student progress and addressing any concerns. I effectively managed classroom behaviour using positive reinforcement and conflict resolution strategies, while also organising excursions and activities that aligned with the centre’s philosophy and the children’s interests. I provided guidance and mentorship to assistant teachers, support staff, and student teachers, and led regular team meetings to discuss classroom goals and strategies. My role also included preparing School Readiness Funding to support the educational needs of the children.
