Project: Understanding Zoning Codes with Large Language Models

- I spent 12 weeks at EnergyHub developing and deploying a set of regression models to predict energy reduction for demand response events using historic data.- I collected, cleaned and processed historic data, and performed feature engineering. - I evaluated different models (linear regression, random forest, XGBoost) and conducted hyperparameter search to find the best performing model. - I spent the second half of my internship deploying the models to production using MLflow, scheduling Airflow training jobs, and developing a streamlit-based UI for teams to use the predictor.

I volunteered at Rewiring America because their vision for nation-wide electrification and decarbonization really resonated with me. I worked on the organization mapping project, helping the team collect data on organizations across the country that are focused on electrification and clean energy. The database enables Rewiring America to foster connections across organizations and provide guidance, raise awareness, and provide policy frameworks in various parts of the country.

As a design researcher with a focus on building performance, I used my background in environmental engineering and sustainable design to help design buildings that tread gently on the environment. My work focused on a variety of research, from workflow development, to analysis and simulation. In addition to performing daylight, energy, and comfort simulations for various building projects, I helped advance the firm’s carbon accounting efforts by contextualizing embodied and operational carbon as they relate to a building’s lifespan. I worked across different scales of design, from detail work to master plans, and use a data-driven approach to inform key design decisions.Extensively worked with and helped develop Tally - KT’s embodied carbon and life cycle assessment tool.

- Worked as a consultant for the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture to optimize a system that can harness the energy generated by the compost system and use it to heat water, which is used throughout the property- Redesigned the heat exchanger to prevent heat loss, maximize efficiency and minimize cost- Modified an existing anaerobic digester model (The Hestia Home Model) to make it suitable to Stone Barns' waste type and energy needs

- Developed a prototype of a solar-powered refrigerator that uses the concept of thermoelectric cooling- Worked on testing and modifying the prototype based on solar panel capacity and Nicaragua’s (place of use) weather conditions

Worked on 8 different projects, all of which aimed to make Appledore Island more sustainable. I was the leader for 4 of these projects (1, 3, 5, 7). 1. Tested the effectiveness of a special Hydrophobic Coating Alpha E-C Solar on SMLs solar panels by conducting a few different experiments and then analyzing the data using excel. 2. Proposed guidelines to SML for the design of a new Research Vessel, taking into account sustainability of the design as well. 3. Conducted research and calculations to size the Mobile Renewable Energy Unit (MREU made by Florida Solar Energy) and integrate it into SML's current electrical system. Collected data and calculated net generator use reduction and fuel savings. 4. Assessed an existing rooftop rainwater toilet flushing system that exists for one of the buildings at SML and used this system as a model to design a similar system for another building. 5. Conducted a lifespan analysis of a set of solar energy storage batteries by analyzing the voltage and capacity graphs for 4 years worth of data. Conducted research to make recommendations about maintenance of the batteries. 6. Engineered a rooftop rainwater collection system for a rinsing station near the dive locker. 7. Assessed the effectiveness of the new grease interceptor installed at SML by comparing it to the previous grease interceptor. Recommended a maintenance schedule and outlined the several disposal options for the greases. 8. Conducted groundwater hydrology tests with a company called EGGI to determine whether a newly discovered well site was hydraulically connected to the existing main well.

- Researched and prepared a presentation about different ways to integrate solar PVs in commercial buildings- Collected, organized and analyzed data regarding India Habitat Center’s Solar PV system- Compiled a case study for Greentech’s project aimed at promoting use of solar PV systems in commercial buildings in India
